Helping to sustainably promote cycling

Project BICYCLE OBSERVATORY

We are supporting the City of Salzburg in its efforts to observe cycling in its entirety and complexity. Despite the renaissance of the bicycle and the associated increased attention from politics, research and business, there is no systemic understanding of cycling. The output of this project will beimportant insights for future decisions regarding spatial or traffic planning, helping the City of Salzburg to establish a diverse cycling culture.
The special feature of BICYCLE OBSERVATORY is that both technical sensor data (e.g. in the sense of floating bike data) and social science data (e.g. behaviour patterns and requirements) are combined. Our experience of many years in the areas of data management and system architecture enable us to give a multidimensional and informative overview of the situation of cycling. We are also developing software for this project.
We can resort to valuable experience gained form the project "BIKEALYZE", in which the way we obtained data concerning cyclists was similar.

The BICYCLE OBSERVATORY project is funded by the FFG as part of the Mobility of the Future programme. The project is managed by the University of Salzburg (Interfaculty of Geoinformatics Z_GIS). Other partners besides PRISMA are Salzburg Research Forschungsgesellschaft mbH (SRFG) and Helios GmbH.
